Add-ons

Here are my favourite add-ons:

• Toggle animated GIFs
• uBlacklist - Blocks sites you specify from appearing in Google search results
• uBlock - ad blocker
• Video DownloadHelper

Airport

When you're at an airport simply add '?.jpg' at the end of any URL to bypass the expensive WiFi and access the Internet for free.

Configuration

Point browser to about:config

accessibility.blockautorefresh = true - disable automatic refreshing
app.update.auto = false
browser.warnOnQuit = false - quit without warning about multiple tabs
geo.enabled = false- turn off location requests
network.dns.disableIPv6 = true  -- seems to speed up on IceWm

Notifications:

dom.push.enabled = false
dom.webnotifications.enabled = false

Scrollbars:

try this if you lose your scrollbars like me.

Plugins worth considering:

• Toggle animated GIFs - by Simon Lindholm (toggle-gifs git repo) - available as an extension.
• Youtube's Annotations No More

Alternative browsers

• Avant
• brave
• dillo
• midori - fairly heavyweight. No proper menu. Accessing bookmarks is poor. Google search requires access to speed dial. Basically, too much clicking around.
• netsurf - no javascrpt
• opera
• pale moon browser - lighter weight firefox
• qupzilla - available for Ubuntu
• zen
