Impulsive buying

Sometimes I behave spontaneously. One might say it is a good thing. Well, sometimes it is not - especially if it is about impulsive buying.

Typically, I don't do it a lot. It is quite opposite - I need a good justification to spend money, then I tend to spend hours comparing parameters, reading forums, watching reviews... almost always to conclude the first option was the best. Even if I *knew* it was the best possible option from the very beginning - I do my homework. And yet, I sometimes fail and buy stuff which is "suboptimal", to say the least.

Thus, over time I developed an alternative strategy. Knowing the sheer number of options I tend to pre-filter them before even I started looking. For instance, looking for a new mouse I decide "I am buying only Logi" and don't look elsewhere. For most of cases it works. The least effort invested, the smaller chance of being dissapointed.

There is, however, a class of items I always struggle to resits. Being a retro computing maniac (even if not practicing it recently due to severe time constraints) I am particularly attracted by modern extensions for retro computers. My recent acquisition is a 1 megabyte RAM extension to my old Atari 800XL. I bought the board almost instantly after seeing it on some forum. When it arrived, I put it on a shelf and forgot about it (remember the severe time constraints?). Even if I eventually found some time to put it into my Atari, that was it. It was 3 years ago and I've never touched it again. Why did I buy it in the first place?

Fast forward to present times and here I am, browsing Gemini space for interesting capsules. What's this? A guy blogging about his old Gameboy. A quick look into popular shopping platform and - wow, there is such a thing like a modern retro-console! How could I missed it? Ten minutes passed and I was logging in to Aliexpress to check the prices. Five more minutes and I was finishing the checkout...

My Miyoo Mini 2 (beige) is expected to arrive end of August. God, have mercy ;)
