Finding DEIMOS

When Johnny was a boy he met an angel. The angel brought him to DEIMOS, barely more than an asteroid, but one of two doomed siblings; Phobos was condemned to spiral inwards, DEIMOS consigned outwards into space. The angel towered over Johnny, a column of light and blackness, utterly alien, unearthly, ungodly. Yet, it granted Johnny a special manifestation, an object of power.

The SWORD resembled an elongated nautilus shell, infinitely spiraled, delicate, precise beyond the atom, with a hilt of carved obsidian and leather. The SWORD was too heavy for Johnny, just a boy. As soon as he held it he was back on Earth.

Hostile, overrun. Surrounded by technology, greed, machines sucking the planet dry, Johnny was alone in a familiar but newly-devastated home. Johnny despaired because the machines wanted the power he couldn't even wield. But as all hope seemed lost, a large black dog appeared, his ally, and distracted the oppressive force long enough for Johnny to bury the SWORD in the muck.

Just as the SWORD was buried, it was gone, the dog was dead. Johnny would spend many years trying to find them again.
