An April Fools Post

2021-04-01

It seems like April Fools isn't as big a deal online as it used to be before the pandemic, but there's still a few things I saw today that gave me a good laugh.

StackOverflow added a warning when selecting text that you were about to use up one of your limited free copies. To unlock unlimited copy pastes, you'd have to buy their new 3-button keyboard dedicated to copy pasting. I think the funny part for me is that this is something that's pretty on-brand for the modern web. If you've been forced to use any kind of online textbook you'll know what I mean. It's as if they're worried about people copy pasting the entire book into a word doc or something.

This year's April Fools xkcd is a single clickable checkbox. Play around with it for a bit and you'll realize you can send morse code messages through it and you'll get a response back. There's actually quite a bit to be uncovered here with a bunch of little easter eggs (which is kind of to be expected if you've kept up with previous April Fools comics).

Radiohead started teasing that some new music might be on its way. And it looks to actually be real? Probably just a Kid A / Amnesiac 20th anniversary edition but still something to look forward to. I feel like they get a kick out of screwing with their fans so something about putting out a teaser on April 1st is hilarious to me.
