Multi-dimentional CLI

Had a thought about how, depending on hardware capabilities, One could create a graphical UI which uses characters as the "pixels" or "building blocks" for the UI. At differen't scales, e.g. a monitor with 768px of width vs another which has +1900px, a font rendered at defined pixel scale, could include sets that expand on the available customizable characters. Where things like bold, italic, etc could be extensions of the origial glyph set in some way.

What could be reduced to basic shapes could then be the interface from which the human then interacts with the machine, unaware of actual operation.
