The One and Only God of Isaiah

Some central tenets of Mormonism are the ideas that (1) God was once what we are now; (2) we can become what God is; and therefore (3) God is just one god among many. To counter this teaching from the Bible, one helpful section to focus on is Isaiah chapters 43 through 45. Below is a list of helpful verses from these chapters. Of course, these chapters are full of beautiful material from beginning to end, but there are a few especially pertinent verses, if we are trying to focus on the uniqueness and the eternality (or immutability) of God.

I will not quote the verses in their entirety, but a brief line of summary is provided for each.

The first three verses in the list are especially helpful for addressing God's eternality or immutibility. That is, God has always been and always will be the one and only God. Also, 44:24 is a direct refutation of the Mormon idea that God made earth with the help of the other lesser gods.

If you are hoping to have future discussions with Mormons, or you are questioning the truth of Mormonism yourself, I would encourage you to study and meditate on these three chapters. Of course, the truths communicated here work as a refutation of any form of paganism or polytheism that exists in the world.
