2025 Week 1/2/3/4: Status and Photos

My PlanetComputers Gemini PDA is stuck on Debian Stretch due to proprietary Linux kernel patches for its processor, and as such it hasn't received updates since 2021. I wanted to try running Reticulum on it, but the most recent version of Python available from the repositories was 3.5, and the last version of Reticulum that targeted 3.5 is too out of date. Fortunately, I was still able to compile Python 3.9 on the PDA, and that allows me to run the current version of Reticulum. Soon, though, even Python 3.9 will reach end of life--will I still be able to network with the PDA after that date?
My weight stagnated this week, drifting slightly upward by 0.4 pounds. I aim to redouble my efforts to eat well. Especially over the last few days, I've let myself slack off. More regular water consumption should help too.
It's been quite a while since I last booted up all my Syncthing nodes simultaneously and let them all sync with each other. It's a great feeling to see all of them connected and up to date.
I pushed several updates to my microblog script over the last few weeks. Some of them were new features, some of them were issues of POSIX compliance, and some of them were simply refactoring. While much of the actual code doesn't conform to shell scripting best practices, it's still come a long way from what it was when I first published it almost three and a half years ago. It's not my goal to implement best practices anyway.

We made some soup for our New Year's Day lunch. Upon peeling an unusually-large onion, we discovered that it had two bulbs inside. I take this as a good-luck charm for 2025.

Our ferrets Mocha and Chai love to play, but their sleep schedules are slightly different. That means they usually play alone--and they want us to join them. We don't have the free time to do that during the day. So this week we decided to buy a third ferret, one who can be a playmate to the other two. She is very young--and fast, as this blurry picture shows.

Local nurseries and garden stores are selling winter plants, as well as starters for spring. This particular shop is also a coffee shop, and we visited it to sample their wares. They were also selling entire miniature gardens for decoration: a pleasant sight when the weather has been so cold recently.

I primarily play StepManiaX in order to exercise, focusing on sustained play at a moderate level instead of high-level skill. This week I decided to try some charts a few levels higher than I normally play. The resulting score caught me completely off guard. I guess I'm better at the game than I thought I was.
