2021 Week 23: Thoughts and Catch-Up

While my sister visits town this month, my parents are making a concerted effort to clean out their house and get rid of things they are no longer going to use. To that end, I'm helping to digitize the many shelves full of VHS tapes our family has collected over the years. This is a big project that is going to take many months.

My office removed their mask mandate for vaccinated individuals starting today. It's been quite refreshing to see everyone's full faces again. I'm not in a position to determine the efficacy of masks in impeding the spread of COVID-19, but on a personal level, I've just never liked them and never enjoyed wearing them. I hope we can all be rid of them soon--vaccinated or not.

During my weekly lap swim this Saturday, I managed 13 laps, the most I've been able to do since I started swimming regularly. My arms and core were pretty sore yesterday, but it felt good to get in that much distance. Keeping records of my workout progress has been a big help for me.

Late last year I switched teams at work, moving from a middleware position to server administration. The middleware team took quite a beating in the last twelve months, going from nine members to only four. The workload has become so extreme that I've recently been asked to split my time between the two teams, rather than be on one. I haven't made a decision yet--I wanted to be a server administrator from the the start and don't really want to go back to middleware, but I also feel bad about the amount of pressure the team is under.

Kino Explores the Yard

We own an African pygmy hedgehog named Kino. As hedgehogs go, he is rather antisocial and doesn't like being touched, but he is still a curious little creature and enjoys exploring. When the weather is nice we'll take him out to the backyard, where he comes across all sorts of interesting plants and bugs.
