2021 Week 22: Thoughts and Catch-Up

2021-06-07

My wife and I were involved in a traffic accident on Tuesday. Our vehicle was significantly damaged, but we appear to be uninjured. An investigation is ongoing, so I will not go into details. In the aftermath, however, we've taken some time together to focus on the things we value and adjust our views on our lives. It's been a helpful experience for both of us.

Recently I visited a facility owned by a group dedicated to preserving aircraft. The building featured a small museum with an extensive collection of books. I lost myself in the library immediately and almost didn't pay any attention to the real exhibits.

A regional German culture festival was canceled due to COVID-19, so my parents decided to invite us to a small German dinner at their house. My uncle and aunt joined as well, and after dinner we recounted the stories of how each of the couples met, how they proposed, and our first dates. My sister judiciously recorded the conversation for purposes of family records and future genealogy.

Last week I went swimming for the first time since the start of the pandemic. I signed up for lap swim at the local recreation center on Saturday, and I found that my shape is worse than it has been in a while. I really need to get myself back in gear.

This LTV A-7 Corsair II was built in Dallas, TX around 1974 and based at Naval Air Station China Lake, CA for over a decade. It was retired sometime after 1990 and sent to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL, from where it was loaned first to the Olathe Naval Air Museum and then to New Century Air Center. It is currently on outdoor display in Navy Park at New Century Air Center, Gardner, KS.
