I got a reminder from Derek Sivers[1] about reviewing my now[2] profile, and it is a good moment to acknowledge I haven’t posted a proper update[3] in a full year 😱.

I’m not going to get back to my cadence between 2019 and 2024, that’s true, but I’ve been thinking now and then that I should reserve some minutes to post about what’s going on in my life, even if it is very unlikely anyone is interested 😄.

Personal

The kid is in his third pre-school year (*infantil* as in Spanish system), and he’ll continue on the same school for all the primary years until 12. He’s perfectly adapted to the small group (only one group per age, here) and also enrolled in a few extra activities: chess, a choir, swimming, and ballet dancing.

This summer was busy first with a conference I’ll mention later, and for the first time, bringing the family to a technical meetup to do some holiday time afterward. We spent two weeks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, first in the south area based in Mostar and then another week touring the center and east of the country based in Sarajevo. Totally recommend!

Then we spent the rest of the summer in our apartment in a beach town north from València. We will try to keep going there on the weekends, whenever we can, because we really enjoy getting out of the city and having much better outdoors time.

I keep updating my reads in my lectura.social profile[4], nowadays reading Enshittification[5] from Cory Doctorow, after reading Todo Muere[6], the last thriller novel from Javier Gómez-Jurado and the Annals of the Western Shore[7] series by Ursula K. Leguin.

I don’t have a public list of my everyday podcasts but there are not many new shows on my feeds. I just keep listening a few podcasts in Catalan about Valencian politics and economics, along with the usual set of news bulletins, and quite a few music shows I play while working.

Professional

I keep doing my usual trade at Elastic, keeping the maps up and running for both cloud and on-premises clients and doing what I can to help on other duties.

As I got appointed as Secretary of the new Works Council for employees based in Spain, my duties have expanded to a new range of tasks and responsibilities. Some of them are not very pleasant, as there’s always a percentage of difficult people on any large group, but overall I think we are doing an honest, professional work to improve the conditions of all employees.

Community

This last summer was busy with two community conferences, the European FOSS4G conference[8] held in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Spanish SIG Libre[9] conference. I posted albums for both[10] conferences[11], and left links to the workshop materials I presented in my /taks[12] page, but unfortunately I haven't found the energy to do a more formal write-up of my participation in both of them. In any case, I enjoyed them, even I feel it’s getting harder for me to attend these public happenings and I need to put more energy to go and stay around other folks. Aging signs, I guess.

Anyway, I’m helping to organize the next Geocamp conference[13] happening in Zaragoza in mid-December (it’s going to be chilly) and looking forward to contributing to a successful Spanish community gathering, with the novelty of having it at the same time with the OpenStreetMap Spanish community.
