Flanking in D&D

This is how I do it:

Anyone can flank for flavor but only rogues get mechanical benefit from it: it allows them to use their sneak attack ability (or “backstab” in older editions).

And that’s it, it doesn’t confer any additional advantage or bonus beyond that.

I know that it’s just the 5e RAW without the extra DMG option. I like it as is.
