Gabor function used to approximate images in 1988.

Creates "polynomial forms of wavelets" using "successive powers of sigmoid functions."

Wavelet functions are used, not Wavelet analysis itself.

The parameters for the wavelet function are learned for each neuron like a complicated bias function.
