Kickbike, an explanantion and why you should care
I bought a kickbike a few months ago, mainly due to my frustration with traditional bikes.
A quick look at the thing.
Why or maybe when you should care?
Because your mode of transport is individual, so if you feel most modes of transport don't fit you, here is a slightly different one.
What are the pro's?
- It weighs very little
- Just get on and go
- Good exercise
- The compact shape makes it easier to fit inside a vehicle
- It uses bike parts (just not all of them)
- You can fix almost anything on it with two hex keys
What are the con's?
- It is a slow mode of transport (about 16kmh down from a bikes 22kmh)
- The compact/low frame catches on high curbs, rocks and the like
Months you say?
Yeah, I have been driving it for months now, even up to 9km stretches and back. While the beginning was rough, as muscles I did not know I had got sore (remember to stretch), it has been a lot of fun to ride actually.
Long uphill climbs are a bit rough, but I usually just get off and walk a bit, where you would power through on a bike... Downhill is a blast though, I've reached speeds of 48kmh, there seems to be more freerun, due to lack of friction from chains and gears.
Why do you keep pushing this nonsense?
I have really enjoyed ownership of my kickbike and I was thoroughly discouraged by everyone I know from getting one.
If I can reach even one person that is conflicted from getting the joy of their own adult transport toy, then it was all worth it.
So if you want an adult sized kick scooter, you are tired of walking speed (5kmh) and afraid of bike speeds, this is definitely your new mode of transport!
