May has ended (or will soon) already! This month flew by due to a mix of vacation, long week-ends due to multiple bank holiday in France and of course work.
As I wrote in my previous month review, May started with some nice and, dare I say it myself, well deserved vacation. We decided to rent something for a couple of weeks in the middle of nowhere. At the far end of a small road as the last house of an already very small village with a huge garden (can we still even call that a “garden” when it is that huge, I’m not sure).
Cellphone reception was poor and the wifi dropped very often, so a forced but good disconnection. I still managed to do nerd stuff offline like working on a software called “microlog” to implement my new micro blogging workflow (for my tinylog, blog notes and some fediverse posts). I still need to write about this on my blog but I’ve been using this workflow for a month now and I like it. Only missing piece is the ability to write micro blogging entries from my phone when on the move. I have an idea of how to change that, but I may not do it and wait for a new piece of hardware that may make this extra effort not required :).
We also used the long week-ends to do outside stuff and that, coupled with long days at work, means that I didn’t write a lot of blog or gemlog posts and didn’t took the time to work on GTL. I have two blog post series I started drafting but need to work more on those before publishing the first post for each.
Regarding GTL, yesterday was supposed to be a GTL day but ended up being “trying to fix my NAS day” and then “Reinstalling my NAS day”. GTL is still high priority on my todo list, but having my data being safe and available on my NAS is a bit above. I’m almost done with that so GTL will soon go back to being at the top of that list!
Early in May, we also saw a very nice concert: « lord of the sound », a Ukrainian orchestra playing music from fantasy and science fiction movies and TV shows. It was awesome! We also saw a stand-up comedian I love so it was great as well. Thanking my partner as she purchased the tickets for both events <3.
Not much worth talking about regarding movies I saw or TV shows, except I finally took the time to watch the season 7 of black mirror. As expected with the quality drop since Netflix bought that show starting season 3, episodes have a highly disparate quality. In my opinion, only episode 1 is worthy of the black mirror stamp. One out of seven is not a lot, but that first episode is really great and a very good dystopian vision of the enshitification we see everywhere on the web nowadays. Not going to say more than that to avoid spoiler, but if you must watch only one episode from that new season, start and stop with the first one :).
We also finished Silo season 2, which was good but not great. Like season one, it did make me want to read the books though, so maybe I’ll add them to my already infinite list of books to read…
The problem with such a “to read” list is that it is growing a lot faster than my ability to read… I read “only” 2 and half book this month so clearly I don’t keep up with the number I add there. Maybe I should select either smaller book or be more “picky” with what I read… Or maybe not change anything! The other problem I have is that, like for my manga collection, I now have way too many books and lack places where to store them… That is a “rich person” problem, but still :P. I could give away some (which I sometime do), but most books I write on and want to keep those for possible later re-reading (at least my notes in there), so most stay at home.
Lastly, we’ve discovered in the past week the “joy” of having our little puppy being in heat… Not sure if we can still call her a puppy at 9 months and after being in heat for the first time though :D. But the experience has been (and still is) a bit of pain. Male dogs don’t want to play with her as before but instead want “more"… While the first week she doesn’t want to, the second is where she does… So walking here even in forests means she has to stay on a (very long) leash. Lot less fun than usual. She is also a lot more tired and afraid than usual. And even though she cleans after herself (🤢), we still find drops of blood here and there. Anyway, I must say I can’t wait for that period to be over and go back to “normal” (not saying it isn’t normal, but referring to how things were before it started).
I feel like this month review has been way longer than it should have been compared to what I actually did… But seems I’m also sharing more in those than before so why not. Anyway, that’s it for this month.
Take care!
