GiM's gemlog - 2025-08-23 Rebuttal: Coffee and Tea and the Java and Me (by nytpu)
I've somehow stumbled upon this, and it shocked me a bit, so here are few things I wanted to share.
(... while almost every coffee drinker I know are pretty open in saying they wouldn't drink coffee if it didn't have caffine in it. Also evidenced by it's relatively rare to add a lot of stuff into hot tea; while with coffee it's rather unusual to *not* add anything to it.
I was somewhere in my twenties, before I relized: >>I HATE TEA!<<.
Living here, you're somewhat accustomed to drinking tea (by parents and relatives). I've never liked strong tea. When I was at the uni, I started drinking roiboos - which by any definition is *not* a tea. It took me few more years to realize what I've stated: I *HATE* black tea. I can sometimes drink green tea - although I *REALLY* prefer water in such case. I can drink white tea - but then again, why bother? I simply don't like tea. Period. I am happy to drink "fruit" teas - but only if they do NOT contain addition of a black tea.
I am however drinking coffee. I drank more, but these days I try to limit myself to two cups or mug per day. And here are two points that are just in total contradiction with what @nytpu writes:
- I would likely drink a coffee if it didn't have caffeine - especially now, that I'm rather drinking pourovers rather than espressos (what I'm trying to say is that imo pourovers are much, much, much less bitter than a shot of espresso) - although I'm not super enthusiastic about decafs - they usually taste badly - but maybe I just haven't had good one
- I *love* my coffee SOLO, as it is. I >almost never< add anything to coffee. Almost - because that occurs less than once per month, so I think >almost never< is justified here. That "thing" is usually oat milk and/or sugar. Again once per month or less.
And in contrast: If I really have to drink black tea, I'm much more willing to drink it WITH milk, than without.
Finally, If you really don't like coffee - due to it's bitterness - I *highly* recommend CASCARA. Those are "leftover" fruits from coffee processing. Brew made out of them is truly delicious. It contains caffeine, but much less than tea or coffee.
