Re: stop making news aggregators
Previously, on Gemini:
Firstly, I have discontinued the automated posting to Antenna whenever the "Heterodox Technology" linklog makes a post to my own gemini capsule, following criticism here. It never more than weekly, but I always accepted that it might be too frequent; that some people (e.g. ploum) might have liked the articles linked to does not imply that literally anyone appreciated having them appear on Antenna.
Antenna filter
The problem there is this new feature has broken all of the backlink services. Being able to find who links to your content was a nice feature to continue the conversation. I'm hoping that the search engines on Gemini are smart enough to not look at the Antenna filter links
I just looked at one of my post and there was over 125 references to my page...
...and they all were personal Antenna filters. Now I have to filter out all these links because again more noise. Interestingly, the Antenna filter links show what people are blocking and most are aggregators. Again, people posting other's content in a way that makes a simple interface a pain to use.
This (from jexcjo) sounds interesting but I don't understand it. I don't know what a backlink service is, and I had assumed that Antenna filter links weren't shared publicly, as that would seem to allow anyone to update that filter; I don't get how the URLs of these filters would leak to other services.
Places like Antenna are where people make their content known
That's definitely true. I'd say it's more relevant to people who use Gemini for "blogging", rather than for "digital gardening". These are two of the biggest types of document on Gemini (the third being "rehosted" material from the Web and Gopher). I don't think people post to Antenna saying "hi, I just updated a couple of pages in my digital garden ... check this out!", and maybe they should.
But Antenna is definitely not where I go to find stuff on Gemini - like the pre-search-engine web, I just make bookmarks and links.
