Because he is a principled person, he does not prioritise loyalty to customers or employers (money). He says what he thinks. Even about partners and sponsors of the FSF (past and present).

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”

--Desmond Tutu

Richard M. Stallman (RMS) writes a lot of stuff. He write about almost everything. Lifestyle, money, politics, sex, coding... you name it. There's no topic he is ashamed or hesitant to "touch"...

This 'audacity' (expressing political opinions) makes RMS more vulnerable to personal attacks, but at least he freely expresses his thoughts. This was a week ago.

RMS has also openly complained that many - even the media - chose to remain silent (like the FSF) and not air their objection to Trump. Even if they strongly disliked him.

Say what you will about RMS; he never objected to freedom of expression, unlike the people who keep attacking him.

We now know why the FSF never advertises RMS talks. While RMS promotes political interests of his critics, the FSF remains quiet (yes, it's a bit ironic when they cancel people for principles).

"Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing," Theodore Roosevelt once said. Well, RMS still does what he loves. And what he does is very important. █
