Endless Summer

↺ GOPHER: Endless Summer
We are nearing the end of September and while many places around the world are enjoying Autumn, here in Tokyo we are still sweltering in triple digit heat. I still have to wear sunblock, still have to have the air conditioning on all the time (including at night to sleep) and there are still heat stroke warnings on TV. Even though the sun now rises later and sets earlier, there doesn't seem to be an end to Summer just yet.

↺ Half Marathon Trip 2024
I’m doing the Oxford Half/Oxford Canal trip again this year!

easy drift

↺ easy drift
relationships - intimate and friendly - they (can be) dificult. Some in life (no not the person reading this, as they (she) would be the only person I KNOW who would read this on Mp) are folks who drift. Some distant, and a Hail Mary/shot in the dark call or e-mail can hit its mark: contact made. Catch-ups had. A friend, Jim, is like this. Or WE are like this. An e-mail or two a year. A friend from Job Corps, once neighbors, dorm roomates at that (wild) time of our lives - now just a fast chat through e-mail is what I/we need/want to keep up. He's also 160 mi from here, so...

never

↺ never
I will never forgive the dog who birthed me into this world. every accomplishment and accolade, sunrise and sunset, smile and bond, they all come with the overbearing and suffocating price of the knowledge-of and recalling-back to the fact that Ven's pulling me Earthside was a mistake.
Any approval, or hope, or hope of approval - not to win over a parental unit but to be within proximity of that thing for more than a moment and have it express an expression of appreciation, is a thing not to be arrived at, or a thing ever beleived to have ever existed.

Technology and Free Software

AI and the Future [Ed: Inane infatuation with "Hey Hi" hype, which mostly boils down to companies faking their alleged value]

↺ AI and the Future
In the coming decades, humanity will achieve advancements that would have seemed like magic to previous generations. This is part of an ongoing trend where society’s infrastructure, not individual intelligence, has grown smarter and more capable over time. Our grandparents contributed to the progress we now benefit from, and artificial intelligence (AI) will accelerate this even further. AI will provide tools to solve complex problems, allowing us to build upon this progress and enable future generations to accomplish things we can't even imagine today.
While these changes will happen gradually, AI will soon help individuals and teams achieve far more than they could alone, whether through personal AI assistants or virtual tutors that can offer customized education. AI’s potential extends to improved healthcare, software creation, and many other areas. This newfound capability could lead to shared prosperity, making life better for everyone, though prosperity alone doesn’t guarantee happiness.

Today I Learned (or rather, rediscovered) how easy it is in Emacs to surround the active region with quotes.

ROOPHLOCH 2024

↺ GOPHER: ROOPHLOCH 2024
I thought I'd drop by Akihabara today, and when I come here I use the "back" way: that is, not Akihabara Stn. Across the street from where I now sit is the St Nikolai Bascilica (sp?) which has been here since the 1800s. I saw a photo or postcard taken at Yasukuni Shrine in the 1800s where one could see here from there. That is, of course, no longer possible.

ROOPHLOCH 2024 entry

↺ GOPHER: ROOPHLOCH 2024 entry
I decided to visit the Rust Belt. My hardware options are limited, but I can still participate! Today I am phosting from the parking lot of a local coffee shop I used to frequent.
Lag, grrr...my data connection sux0rz out here.
The other night I was able to see the harvest moon/lunar eclipse. I thought about phosting a ROOPHLOCH entry, but decided to just stay present with the experience. I don't really follow outerspace happeninings, but I ended going outside for this one since a friend had mentioned it earlier in the day and I remembered he did when I looked up at the moon during my nighttime walk. Like a finger pointing at the moon...
