My cnm relationships are non-fungible

It's often noted that consensual nonmonogamy (cnm) allows one to get different needs/wants - kink, romantic, sexual, etc. - met by different people, rather than expecting them to be met by one person alone. This is certainly true overall, of course. But in its more instrumentalist forms - e.g. “person X is my provider of need/want Y” - it can potentially become problematic. The issue is that such instrumentalist perspectives tend to imply the possibility that a given person is ‘fungible’.

I can’t remember the last time I ate of my own volition. I only recall the presence of the light hands serving me some form of nourishment from a ceramic bowl, my lips invariably refusing to let any substance pass, my throat only swallowing the stuff down when choking is the alternative. Still the hands persist, because they’re hers and she refuses to let me die. I don’t think he’s checked into her shifts at the ER lately. She’s going to get fired, no doubt.

Lantashi Dance, Cosmic Voyage Updates

It has been a while since I've updated my Cosmic Voyage story, and I've decided that Lantashi, Kit and crew have been sleeping long enough!

Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to be updating Lantashi Dance. I consider Cosmic Voyage to be where my logs will go, once I am finished writing them. But why not write and publish in real time right on my Gemini Capsule?

I've copied the story over to my writing section. Note I had a fantasy adventure that was named almost the same thing, so that adventure story is now called Lantashi's Adventures. I've put together a few scripts to upload quickly to Lantashi Dance when I make changes.

Scolding him

I feel bad when I get very angry at my kids. I don't feel like taking to him right now. I think I got angry at him because his dad is always late when I'm not going with him to work (we work at the same company). Not entirely his fault, but these past weeks is always the same. And we are all tired , except my kid. And my patience is limited dealing with picking them up, shopping, cooking, bathing, all... so I just shouted at him because he stuffed his mouth as full as he could and went to do cartwheels. I told him no before he did and he still did. I'm so angry at both of them now.

an old man, an old (b)log, an old tale to degrade into old time

Another day here, but a nice one. The 4th. Everyone discussing the proximity to fireworks out of the American Flag lined entryway to the old folks home I am currently at (in a "crisis bed" until Monday, then off to the new apartment :))

An odd scene, not one that goes untold in any given society though: question less patriotism in a setting where one may challenge an(y) authority - but, a place like this, where the old and sick can be where they would otherwise be homeless or destitute, it's what they in some respect chose. Or their kids. PS, shoot me in the face if I ever have kids, lol!

Moving forward

Man am I tired. Every year I’m a camp counselor, but this year is super tiring. I’m almost falling asleep writing this, and it’s not even 5pm yet.

How many successful hoop jumps does it take to make disparate (despair-ate?) software work together?

I acquired a new gmail address (calm down, Google haters! :-) ) for a few reasons, one being wanting to see if I could hook it up to "mutt". Success attained - although, oh, the hoops, how old men can't jump, etc.....

Of course, there's too often endless misery to software. tmux seems to be the culprit in messing up terminal colors for mutt (from what I read it's something to do with how tmux mucks with the TERM environment variable), so I'll be damned if I could get it to display the way I'd really want. But I found some .tmuxrc settings that make it visibly passable, despite nonsensical. Until I figured the latter out, I was actually using a script that ran a tmux command to capture pane text, put that in a temp file, and "less"ing that file in order to see the text. Ugh....

The software supply chain is something they've done to themselves

And, as the title implies, my thesis was that EEE is something we do to ourselves. This came from a place of frustration, watching as the technical leaders of the Fediverse—one of my semi-permanent homes on the internet—seemed to be voluntarily handing my community over to the same corporate interests that sold out every other internet home I had before it. What's worse, of course, is that members of my community cheered them for it¹, and people like myself were being treated as backwards for not wanting the Mastodon Network to "grow."
