Speaking of Enshittification and Freedom, We've Still Not Begun Tackling the UEFI 'Secure' Boot Mess (Preventing GNU/Linux From Even Booting!)

TODAY in IRC there has been a lot of discussion about UEFI 'Secure' Boot (scrollback here; search for "Sompi"). As it turns out, things continue to get worse and the media isn't talking about it.

Enshittification of this kind must be talked about.

Alexandre Oliva has used this term, "Enshittification" (coined by Cory Doctorow), and it seems increasingly appropriate. Computers get worse, even at the immutable hardware level. I spoke to Doctorow about it some days ago. He seems to believe it's a real problem, but the EFF never talks about it. The FSF never talks about it either (anymore).

That's a problem even worse than the mainstream media ignoring the issue. Because the journalists have nobody left to cite and the press won't explain the problem to regulators, politicians etc.

Microsoft continues to fly under the radar and commit competition crimes with impunity. █
