01:41 matey; maybe german narcissists are special

01:42 matey; or maybe its something unique that goes beyond that

01:42 matey; it could also be the same, but i think it stands out

01:43 matey; maybe when you combine the quintessential german personality with narcissism this is what you get

01:43 MinceR; no, that was the abomination they called "4e"

01:44 matey; i should just avoid anything with dnd and "e" perhaps?

01:44 MinceR; no

01:44 matey; 3e is ok?

01:44 MinceR; 3e was good (though 3.5 is better)

01:44 MinceR; AD&D 2e was good too (though not as good as D&D 3e)

01:45 matey; ive dated people into dnd, ive married people into dnd

01:45 matey; i cant seem to get into it

01:47 MinceR; lol

01:49 matey; why does stabbing do slashing damage?

01:49 MinceR; because apparently specifying multiple damage types for a weapon and letting players choose was not "streamlined" enough?

01:49 MinceR; s/.$//

01:50 MinceR; naturally, in 3.x, they did specify multiple damage types and let players choose

01:50 MinceR; but then, those editions weren't designed with the assumption of the players being complete morons

01:51 MinceR; (still, not to the extent of some swords letting you choose between Piercing and Slashing, though)

01:51 matey; you can see them but you dont have the advantage that seeing them has!

01:52 matey; what?

01:52 MinceR; afaik they never let you pick Piercing for stabbing with a "longsword" (which should be an arming sword)

01:52 matey; <MinceR> but then, those editions weren't designed with the assumption of the players being complete morons <- dont let d&d be designed by GNOMEs

01:56 matey; roll for diversity!

01:56 matey; oh, you rolled a 1. im sorry but i have to cancel your character.

01:57 MinceR; diversity is easily achieved in tabletop RPG settings, they don't need to write any rules for that

01:57 matey; diversity is easily achieved <- yes, well-- thats what a lot of privileged people think

01:57 MinceR; :>

01:57 MinceR; that's what i've experienced in the games i've played

01:58 matey; but ACTUALLY, implicit diversity is often used as an excuse by those with privilege and the only REAL diversity is the kind that gets EXPLICITLY shoved down your throat at the beginning of every move, topic or thought

01:58 MinceR; lol

01:58 matey; that's what i've experienced <- well of course being a cis white male its impossible to tell if diversity is sufficient or not, because youll assume it is because of your experience.

02:03 MinceR; it's when upon rolling the highest value on any individual die you get to reroll that die and add the result to the total

02:03 MinceR; (in addition to the maximum value you rolled)

02:05 matey; uh oh

02:07 matey; is there a word for dnd designers / standards writing minmaxing, or should there be

02:11 MinceR; i do enjoy optimization though

02:12 matey; because ive paid close attention to comedy, i can tell from her facial expression that if they were married he would spend the next 10 days sleeping on the couch

18:29 DaemonFC; schestowitz[TR], I told Richard Stallman this:

18:29 DaemonFC; "Gun control" is mostly a rhetorical set of fantasy documents, like most laws. You've no doubt seen that politicians really like bill signings where they say that they'll control the weather, ban guns, and fix the economy, all before lunch. There's actually a book about government documents like this called "Mission Improbable: Using Fantasy Documents to Tame Disaster".

18:29 DaemonFC; Ironically, the book was published three months before September 11th, 2001.

18:29 DaemonFC;

18:29 DaemonFC; It mostly covers how the government documents for continuity of government in the face of disaster claim to work. Three months later, everything turned into a real shitshow where nobody knew what to do and nobody was in any rush to get the President anywhere.

18:29 DaemonFC; The point expands, I think, to most things the government claims it will do. Like how California will ban gasoline engines by 2035. 2035 will probably get here, and the ban will be "too economically painful", and they'll either repeal it or keep delaying it "another 5 years" and it will just become another fantasy document.

18:29 DaemonFC; In most real world examples, the government is better at preventing economic activity and jobs growth, and those tend to happen more when the government gets out of the way and lets it happen. In which case, the government figures come out and congratulate themselves for doing nothing to prevent it and claim it could never have happened without them.

18:29 DaemonFC; So government is sort of an absurdity all around, isn't it?

18:48 techrights_guest|61; I read alot. I have read a goo dchunk of the posts 2006-2009. there was one post where a user commented on "making linux more user friendy like apple" in one of the posts. I think that is one of the driving forces in the divide between realistic expectations and doing the work to get there. those ready made devices, are ready, the user has to

18:48 techrights_guest|61; do no work, but they get the reward a at once. this creates the expectation they have to do nothing and it just all works. I think this expectation of unrealistic proportions is a big driver in peoples ability to move to linux. they expect it all at once, and expect not to do anything to get there.

19:14 DaemonFC; schestowitz, It's a tax scam. Microsoft can donate it and then have them sponsor work on Microsoft's projects.

19:15 DaemonFC; I figure that longer term, Microsoft will likely "open source" more Windows components, but not anything that's really useful outside of Windows.

19:16 DaemonFC; Then they'll "donate" more and more to outfits like OSI and "Linux Foundation" that flows right back to "consultants" that don't work for Microsoft but only work on those components.

19:16 DaemonFC; That way they can take advantage of a tax loophole to fund development of their own software and write it off their taxes.

19:18 DaemonFC; schestowitz, There was a dentist down there at the hot tub talking about how she got the government for over $100,000 in COVID money because of the pandemic and she plans to retire and shut down the office anyway this year.

19:19 DaemonFC; Then she didn't go anywhere last year, so she had her church write her timeshare company a check to use her 8 timeshare weeks for a big church conference, and then she turned around and wrote them a check for that amount and declared it a tax writeoff as "charity".

19:20 DaemonFC; It's just extremely crooked the way rich people get to scheme and scheme to avoid taxes. If you aren't going to use your vacation this year, sell it to the church and take a tax deduction.

19:20 DaemonFC; $100,000 for a dental practice saying you need to save it one year so you can retire as soon as it opens back up.

19:57 TR News; Spamnil covering "Azure" garbage. Come up, Scamnil, shill Microsoft... show us what Linux Foundation stands for...

19:58 DaemonFC; Even the No Surprises Act didn't come from nowhere. 19:58 DaemonFC; So now the only difference is insurance will cost more and the deductibles will go up again, and as usual, you just pay for healthcare some other way instead.

19:59 DaemonFC; It's not like Congress passed a bill and there won't be huge medical bills coming in the mail from out of network doctors in the ER and shit.e

19:59 DaemonFC; I mean, there won't be, but it's a side effect.

21:12 DaemonFC; But she probably went right in there and signed whatever they handed her, and then the salesmen started laughing at the two idiots as soon as the door shut behind them.

21:13 DaemonFC; There's almost always a lower offer at those presentations.

21:14 DaemonFC; And each time, the offer costs half what the last offer was going to.

21:14 DaemonFC; But the 4th offer is still bad because you can buy a used timeshare for 25% of what the last offer was because people get sick of their "fees" going up 8% every year.

21:15 DaemonFC; And the easiest way out is to sell it for next to nothing to someone else.

21:15 DaemonFC; If you really want the timeshare, you just buy a used one, but you still shouldn't. Because the fees cost as much as just booking the unit through the Holiday Inn.

21:16 DaemonFC; And worse! If you want to go somewhere else, they hit you with another $130 a week for trading.

21:16 DaemonFC; Then you give up your Holiday Inn points that a non-member gets, which can be redeemed for free condo nights!
