03:26 schestowitz[TR2]; If you have not received a career advancement or bonus in April 2024 and either received a good performance report for 2023 or contested your 2023 report, you have a chance of reversing the decision and receiving a step or promotion with retroactive effect.

03:26 schestowitz[TR2]; To do so, you need to file a request for review (RfR) until 3 months following the earliest of the following 2 dates: when your manager contacted you to announce the decision, or the 24th of April (April 2024 payslip).

03:26 schestowitz[TR2]; We have seen colleagues with good or better performance reports receive a step / promotion with retroactive effect after having filed a RfR and followed through to the subsequent internal appeal stage.

03:26 schestowitz[TR2]; A request for review should include the receivability, facts, grounds for review and what you are requesting. It is important to collect all relevant facts in written form and argue your case. You will have to provide arguments showing any of the following criteria for challenging discretionary decisions:

22:12 schestowitz[TR2]; Watson senior and Jr managed IBM with a 10-1 employee to manager ratio. Its what the US army used during WW2 and they emulated that. When Gerstner came on board IBM in the 1990s it was down to 6-1. He promptly cut excess headcount (60k over 18 months) and moved the manager to employee ratio back to 15-1. Today IBM is running at 6.5 employees to 1 manager. Looks like its time for a haircut. IBM has always been over managed

22:12 schestowitz[TR2]; which results in its almost 2X overhead cost vs its nearest competitors. Being over managed when you are the only game in town is an affordable executive perk/luxury.
