Personal/Opinions
- These photos are from last Wednesday (Sept 13). Here are some interesting catkins I observed
- I would never say this to my IRL friends, as it would precipitate a crisis. But we’re all just here drinking and what is griped about shall never pass beyond the wooden door. So…
- DEAR FRIENDS, STOP TALKING ABOUT BLOODY STARFIELD
- I am 3 months without coffee. I don’t have lust or cravings. But I have gained some weight as I replaced this addiction with adding more sugary food.
Technology and Free Software
- At any given moment, I’m juggling conflicting ideas on the concept of technological detachment. I have a visceral distaste for talking to Siri, having Google map a route to my destination, or purchasing digital streaming video or audio or games. My partner ribs me about my insistence on keeping a physical media collection and a backup hard drive of all the music I’ve ever bought. Yeah, I subscribe to Spotify, but how much longer is that service model tenable? Further, I think about a world where a connection to the power grid is not assured, let alone stable access to the Internet.
- I was thinking if I should write this post for a long time. I feel bad when critiquing others (but I still often do it). But this is my own little space and I want to share opinion on systemd, for journaling purposes.
- I’m not a big fan of systemd due to it taking over so many parts of the system. If it were just an init system I’d be more open to it.
- I recently wanted to improve Qubes OS accessibility to new users a bit, yesterday I found why GNOME Software wasn’t working in the offline templates.
- Today, I’ll explain how to install programs from Flatpak in a template to provide to other qubes. I really like flatpak as it provides extra security features and a lot of software choice, and all the data created by Flatpak packaged software are compartmentalized into their own tree in `~/.var/app/program.some.fqdn/`.
- I primarily use the bundled Terminal.app on macOS. It’s pretty good as long as you don’t need or want 24-bit color (which you really do if you use Kakoune or Helix or Micro).
Internet/Gemini
- I am now introducing AuraGem Music’s new Public Radio! It livestreams public domain and royalty free mp3 music over Gemini.
- Songs should be properly randomized now
- I have also made an announcement post for the AuraGem Public Radio that has more information on Supported Clients as well as a new project that I intend to work on very soon…
