The small web is not dead

There's been a lot of talk of "the decline of gemini" in Gemini space, starting with this thread:

Lots of people chimed in to cheer on the small web in general and gemini in particular:

I will stay on the small web
Fulfillment in Gemini
Decline of the small web

This is me chiming in as well. I have only recently joined Gemini space, but am here to stay. Just today I added my second capsule, and I intend to move more and more towards 'Gemini first' content, with optionally (but not always) a mirror the world wide web.

I might not (yet) be an active developer helping to build out the Gemini ecosystem, nor may I be building services hosted on Gemini.

But, I am, in my own modest way, publishing content. And more than that, every day I read the new posts on the many gemlogs and learn a thing or two or become inspired by what others are writing. Something I haven't experienced elsewhere on the internet in a long time.

I see people who, like me a few months ago, hear about Gemini for the first time and are delighted, who discover a world they longed for but didn't know existed. Like me, they're coming home.

And believe me, my hands are itching to start doing some development. If only to maintain some of the tools I use (such as the vger Gemini server) that seem to have been abandoned. Soon, time will be less of an issue, and I'm ready to invest some time in such projects again.

I want Gemini. And so do a lot of others. Maybe for some it has not become what they wanted it to become, and that's sad. But for me and a lot of others, it is exactly what we've been looking for. Thanks to all who came before us and created this space, whether they abandoned it or not. I'm ready to take up the gauntlet and make sure Gemini space continues to be the good thing it is.
