[2025-03-29T01:17:02Z] Why wasn't my pull request merged? Does it have any problem? [2025-03-29T01:17:03Z] https://codeberg.org/kiss-community/community/pulls/1767 [2025-03-29T03:31:57Z] oh look it's riteo [2025-03-29T03:32:43Z] sad_plan: just dont get a job in tech rn [2025-03-29T03:32:53Z] it isnt worth it [2025-03-29T03:33:28Z] also, not related to kisslinux, i ordered new plates today >:OOOOOOOOOOOO [2025-03-29T03:33:54Z] got a good deal on nice falcon enamelware [2025-03-29T03:34:37Z] Does anybody know why my pull request wasn't merged? Does it have any problem? https://codeberg.org/kiss-community/community/pulls/1767 [2025-03-29T05:50:17Z] midfavila: if I went back to school, I would be done in 4 years. its a 2 years study, taken parttime. things mightve changed by that. in any case, ive not yet made up my mind [2025-03-29T05:50:40Z] but I gotta make a descision soon, as the deadline is due mid april [2025-03-29T05:51:45Z] EliSloli: patience. people have lives outside of merging/revewing prs [2025-03-29T11:50:59Z] sad_plan: and kiss is dying [2025-03-29T11:51:11Z] i think its time i make my own package manager :3cc [2025-03-29T12:06:16Z] sad_plan: a two year program wont get shit [2025-03-29T12:06:26Z] source: i have one [2025-03-29T12:14:38Z] sewn: no, I dont belive its dying. its community is just.. somewhat fractured perhaps [2025-03-29T12:14:52Z] no its dying [2025-03-29T12:15:05Z] midfavila: education systems here and canada is different, but sure, its not as good if I went for a bachelor, or master. [2025-03-29T12:16:05Z] if I were to get a bachelor/master, it would cost me 4 years fulltime just on that school, but I have to take some classes before I could even go there, which would be evena nother year, also fulltime [2025-03-29T12:16:25Z] sewn: what made you draw that conclusion? [2025-03-29T12:16:33Z] maintainers Poof [2025-03-29T12:16:43Z] userbase 7 [2025-03-29T12:19:33Z] kiss-community/repo still recieves updates. what do you even mean? so what if userbase is only a handfull of people? I would agree if theres no action, and noone is using it [2025-03-29T12:19:42Z] ok [2025-03-29T12:19:44Z] maintainers 1 [2025-03-29T12:19:53Z] maintainers that interact with the userbase 0 [2025-03-29T12:20:37Z] that would be more correct [2025-03-29T12:20:45Z] also [2025-03-29T12:21:02Z] a dead project doesnt need to have no users to be considered dead [2025-03-29T12:21:45Z] i know a bunch of projects that are still being used by people who 1. have no idea and move as soon as they encounter a problem 2. will never contribute but still hangs on for dear life out of ignorance [2025-03-29T12:22:12Z] like spotify-tui for example, dead for 4 years, actually broken - unsolvable, yet still has people [2025-03-29T12:23:41Z] if something is actually broken, how could people even use it? [2025-03-29T12:23:58Z] dead != abondoned [2025-03-29T12:25:39Z] sad_plan: dont ask me ask them [2025-03-29T12:26:10Z] "abandoned" yeah in my head i like to interchange that with "dead" alot, my bad [2025-03-29T12:26:13Z] so kiss is [2025-03-29T12:26:14Z] hmm [2025-03-29T12:26:26Z] left astray [2025-03-29T12:28:07Z] well sure. but I would argue that a project can be abondoned, but not dead, but if its dead, its also abondoned. [2025-03-29T12:29:42Z] dead meaning it has no users, and no commits [2025-03-29T12:33:33Z] morpheus linux is a perfect example of a dead project. it has no users, no commits, its also broken, because a lot of links no longer works [2025-03-29T12:34:42Z] bearssl could be considered abondned, but after emailing the dev, he stuck with no idea how he could properly implement tls1.3. was unhappy with the spec iirc [2025-03-29T14:10:51Z] got it [2025-03-29T14:34:45Z] sewn: DistroWatch places KISS in the "Dormant" category, which is in between "Active" and "Discontinued". DistroWatch has a page explaining its categories, and "Dormant" has the specific meaning of "no new stable release within the past two years". [2025-03-29T14:36:22Z] So presumably all it would take to get back the "Active" status is for a new stable release to be issued. [2025-03-29T15:03:37Z] i guess the nice thing is that kiss kind of can't be "dead" [2025-03-29T15:04:14Z] given id say most people have to repackage pretty much everything for it to be usable [2025-03-29T16:06:13Z] true.. [2025-03-29T16:06:16Z] kiss is a metadistro anyway [2025-03-29T16:06:23Z] but it is dissapointing that it *is* one [2025-03-29T17:17:22Z] a [2025-03-29T17:52:35Z] why is it disappointing that it is one exacly? I see this as a win [2025-03-29T17:52:42Z] sewn [2025-03-29T17:53:02Z] hau [2025-03-29T17:53:06Z] oh [2025-03-29T17:53:07Z] ermm [2025-03-29T17:53:13Z] every user has to get very familiat [2025-03-29T17:55:47Z] I see this as win aswell. it raises the bar somewhat, which might turn down new users, which.. is fine I guess. but it also forces users to figure out how their system works, which grants them knowledge. which is good for everyone [2025-03-29T18:04:41Z] bru [2025-03-29T22:22:34Z] kiss cannot die
