Mark of the Gorilla
1950
1.5/5
It's almost as if the people making these movies know just how cheap they are. If I didn't know better, I'd say they realized Simba and the other "gorillas" in the previous movie were very clearly men in costumes, so they decided to pull a fast one on anyone who had seen it and assumed that the gorillas in this one were supposed to be actual gorillas.
Anyway, this one involves some kind of gold treasure that was stolen from some jungle people and then hidden, the princess of those people trying to find the gold, some apparent Nazis trying to find the gold (who I didn't realize were Nazis until I read the description here because I must have fallen asleep at one point when that was explained), and the Nazis dressing up as gorillas to try and kidnap the princess, and Jungle Jim, and whoever else that gets in their way.
Also features Jim fighting a leopard, a lion, an eagle, an eel, as well as several Nazis. There is a message about conservation and whatnot at the beginning of the movie, which is fine, but it's kind of undercut by Jim constantly pulling out a knife on animals. Johnny Weismuller continues to deliver some of the worst line readings in film history. The man can't even sound natural while counting to 10. The best part was probably the crow and the parrot having a conversation about the card game some of the people are playing at one point.
