Rain Forest
It rains a lot in Washington state. Or maybe it's just winter.
I live in Central Oregon, and I'm not used to the dampness up in Washington, especially not on the Olympic Peninsula.
It's just raining basically all the time. There was a flood warning near us (in Hoodsport) so maybe it's not normal. But the sheer amount of moss growing on every available surface suggests otherwise.
We're near the inappropriately-named Hood Canal, a rather massive fjord. We drove along it to get to a nice hike in the forest.
Water dripped from all surfaces. Sopping mushrooms drooped from fallen, moss-covered logs. Raindrops fell from saturated cedar boughs and pattered on our jackets as we hiked the muddy trail. The creek carved through the forest.
I worked on being present in the moment. What an amazing phenomenon—water falling from the sky! There is no bad weather—only bad clothing!
It was actually pretty special, but it would take me some getting used to.
We have a few more days here to make it happen.
