Games I played in 2024, Part 1/2

The year is correct. I wrote this in July 2024, but then forgot about it and only added it to my gemlog a year later. There was never a Part 2/2 for 2024, but I added a few notes below.

An incomplete list of what digital games I have been playing the first six months of 2024.

Brogue

100 times in January-February. Did not manage to win a single time. So far I only won that game one time in the five or so years I have been playing it on and off. Have not played it since end of February, but I guess I will pick it up again eventually. Keeps coming back to it. It is the game I have played by far more than any other game in recent years or maybe ever.

Update 2025: I picked it up again in september and played well into this year before I stopped again.

Pools of Darkness

Still playing the old Goldbox games. Link to my recent post about progress so far. This year I made more progress than I probably did in the previous ten years combined. Maybe after some 25 years I am finally approaching the end of Pools of Darkness soon and can start planning for what CRPG to play next.

Update 2025: Played a few more sessions in october-november of 2024. 2024 was possibly the best year I ever had with this game.

Rule The Waves II

My latest addiction. Design (early 20th century) warships, build fleets, fight battles. There is a sequel from last year, but I am waiting for that to go on sale and I wanted to try one of the earlier games in the series first anyway. This game mostly is just about staring at a spreadsheet of ship data and answering some random event multiple-choice questions, and that is much more fun than it might sound like. Can play the demo with Proton in FreeBSD, but the full version of the game crashes on launch, so I have to play it on my old Windows laptop, which is annoying but not enough to stop me from playing.

Update 2025: Bought the sequel (Rule the Waves III) later in 2024. I did manage to play those games in Windows 10 running in Bhyve in FreeBSD, so no more need for that old Windows laptop. Great games, but also time-consuming. I have not played either version much, but I hope to get back to play more.
