Me
Big fan of old personal computers and everything obsolete.
Still young enough to not value my time spent, which means I still etch my own circuit boards or wirewrap them.
Prototyping
Various methods which I use to build my own circuits. Mostly scuffed.
Wirewrap
The long lost art of stripping 30 AWG wire and wrapping it around a pin header.
Here are some pros:
- debugging on the fly, just rewrap your connection
- good IC density, wires can overlap unlike single side PCB tracks
- very artsy
and cons:
- wirewrap sockets are extremely expensive, clocking in at 10€ for a single one
- crosstalk at higher frequencies, max is around 10 MHz
Mostly used in the 60's and 70's, where TTL circuits ran at 1 MHz and crosstalk wasn't much of an issue thanks to ''low'' clock frequencies. The example section contains images of same sided wirewrap boards, which you can easily build yourself at a low price.
