Whoo boy, it's been a while. So, some things...
I got some new audio kit, learned a bit about Delta-sigma DACs (they sound mostly the same...), borked most of my server things for the longest of time, etc.
Onwards! I ended up getting the DT 990 Pros, was really pleased with them, then proceeded to get the 770s. Creative's claims about drive power were correct. My sound card is a chonk. Ended up getting an xDuoo XP-2 Pro to go with them, cause my phone can't drive 250 ohms properly. Sure, it gets loud, but driver control is lacking and you get a sort of high-pass, low-pass filtering going on. Then I got a Prozor DAC to see what a "bad" DAC sounds like, it's really not bad for the price. The output is a bit low in voltage (0.7v P/P) and there are killer samples in some music that makes the top end distort, but if you need a SPDIF -> RCA converter, it'll likely do the trick.
Delta-sigma DACs do sound mostly the same though. I don't really know about the FPGA driven DACs however (Chord is notable for doing this), so those might sound different. But a bog standard chip from Sabre, Wolfson, AKM or the like are going to sound pretty much the same.
I switched VPS providers, and borked my private gemini server, broke SSL on it for the longest of time. It's in the process of being fixed... The reason SSL broke is that my RPi wasn't booting for the longest time, I ended up having to chroot into the sdcard with my laptop and update it to finally fix the boot problems.
I'm still doing programming from time to time, this time, I'm looking to make an incremental game. It's already looking to be in a much better state than my half attempts at programming for the NES, Android and the Vita. At the moment, I've only got an outline...
If you end up using it for your own project, please let me know! I'd love to see what you came up with.
Guess that's it for the moment
