First time with wireless earbuds
2025-06-07
For reasons that are too convoluted to summarize, I own a set of wireless earbuds now. I've had them for about a week now, and these are my assorted thoughts on them.
Wow, my ears (the pinnae specifically) get sore wearing them. I'm not sure why. The eartips feel fine and seal properly. If I switched to smaller ones, they wouldn't fit right. These earbuds do have little fins to keep them stable in my ear, so could that be why? Are these like shoes and I have to break them in?
These earbuds have surprisingly powerful noise cancelling. They're actually stronger than the noise cancelling on the over-ear headphones I normally use! It reduces outside noise enough to feel kind of unnerving. The resistance to wind noise is also much better than on my headphones.
That "earbud bump" sound still happens. I've experienced that sound with wired earbuds before, where bumping into the wire caused a soft, but deep "thump" to ring in your head. I'm kind of surprised it still happens with wireless earbuds! I hear it with every step I walk.
The charging case is kind of awkward. It's made of this slippery hard plastic and it's wide instead of tall. It looks the same from any angle, so it's hard to tell which way it opens unless I look at it carefully. All together, that makes it unecessarily hard to open fluidly.
Nonetheless, these are a lot more useful for hot days, when wearing over-ear headphones would be too sweaty. They also work with glasses better.
And the sound quality? Is fine. As usual with in-ears, having the sound beamed straight into your ears doesn't feel as natural as it does with over-ears.
