Querying
One of the reasons I standardized on the same top matter[1] for my documents is because I like to keep track of things about each chapter:
- Who is in each chapter
- Who is talked about in each chapter
- Where is each chapter
- When is the chapter and how long it is
- What is the purpose of the chapter
- The outline of the chapter
- The editing status of the chapter
One could also use the top matter to track the point of view of each chapter, though I write single POV stories, or the scene/sequel if you follow Dwight V Swain's[2]'s ideas.
I use this information from the source file[3] to populate the links at the bottom of the online page[4], the timeline for the individual characters (currently missing from my website), and a whole other slew of information.
While writing, I can also use the tools to query information about the chapters.
