An effort to bring the values and benefits of Old and Small Technology[1] to the modern Web. That is, using the existing web technologies in a way that makes the web small.

Compared to Gopher[3] and Gemini[4], the small web is about using existing web protocols in a small way, rather than replacing it with protocols that enforce small technology values more directly.

Low-tech magazine has a solar-powered website[5], and they talk extensively about how to design a website in such a way that it requires minimal power to host.
The 10 KB Club[6], 250 KB club[7], and 1MB Club[8] honor websites with small overall load sizes.
Text-Only Websites[9] lists websites that primarily stick with simple text.
The Lean Web Club[10] talks about writing JavaScript that is small, and without frameworks.
