@norayr Interesting. I don't think though everybody is floss here, some just for the good internet. )

I use Nekogram, not sure if that counts as open source

i am not sure i need to talk about it here.

there is nothing personal to the op or the amazing artist. all respects to the artist and gratitude as well.

since long time i feel that it's not only about a 'better internet', it is about all the software: even if the software is 'open' but there's company behind it that needs to make profits, satisfy shareholders, etc, then it impacts the software in negative way.

one example, it creates conflict of interests. there in an incentive to make the open/free/libre part less capable but still usable enough to be attractive enough. and less capable to be able to sell plugins that solve consciously made limitations.

maybe to be continued.

@norayr Yeah, I agree on this, not many understand it.

@bsj38381 Tg didn't release the server source so we can't say it's really open sourced. So Signal much better at this point. Unfortunately, not that popular locally.

i use xmpp. it is amazing. protocol governed by a community, not company. lots of client and server implementations. decentralized - federated.

has lots of extensions, for examle for location sharing, reactions, even microblogging.
