Insane clown world

So I install droidian and everything is super slow and buggy and crashes all the time and reboots, horrible, unusable yada yada ... but then! I enable waydroid and holy gnucious it's snappy and stable and easy and lagrange text selection is better than native, like lolwut?! wtf Droidian?!!!

Just boot into waydroid then, i'll buy it

The frequent crashing of the whole system was a hardware issue with my phone. Some specific audio effects cause it to insta-crash even in Linage OS. I figured this out by playing Mindustry - every time I confirmed bunch of tracks it would construct them super fast and make this brrrrr sound and crash, and muting system audio fixed it. One of the speakers was always dodgy on this phone, sometimes cutting out, and now it just crashes everything instead, I suppose there is a short circruit somewhere. Tragic T_T

Good news is droidian doesn't actually crash a lot. Still slow and buggy and crash sometimes (and waydroid is still inexplicably faster and better), but at least can poke around in it now.
