Before completing this, I had played through the Hello Charlotte trilogy, but I'm still not exactly sure about what I think of it, so I'm leaving that mess for later (among other, non-RPG Maker things). For now, let us turn ourselves...
OFF
- Linux/Reimplementation
What is this game?
OFF wiki says:
OFF is the critically acclaimed Belgian French-language surreal adventure RPG made by Mortis Ghost in 2008 with RPGMaker2003.
The game was translated into English in 2011 and is considered a gem among indie adventure RPGs.
Did I enjoy playing it?
Yes. Compared to Ib, this game is longer (took ~5 hours) and actually features combat (with the Active Time Battle system, meh). The environment is much more surreal here, and the narrative takes some interesting turns while leaving a lot to interpretation. It's a bit funny how the "RPG Maker classics" get less and less ambitious over time (Yume Nikki > OFF > Ib)
- 8/10*, the gameplay can be a bit of a slog, but overall still recommended if you're in the mood for an ""art game"" and still haven't played OFF for whatever reason.
Playing it on Linux, or low-spec hardware?
Same deal as last time. Used EasyRPG Player to play natively on Linux, this appears to be 100% compatible. I made an AUR package for the English translation of OFF here:
