For several years, I wrote news articles for the excellent magazine “Amiga Future,” both for the print edition and the online version. Unfortunately, I had to scale back on both due to time constraints and now only write the Playfield article, in which I present newly announced games for the Amiga computer.
At some point, I discovered the Gemini protocol. Very soon after, I made another great discovery: Karl Jeacle's AmiGemini (see Aminet), a really fast and easy-to-use graphical multi-protocol client that now supports other protocols in addition to Gemini and Spartan. By the way, you can find Karl's wonderful Gemini capsule here:
Anyway, at some point I asked Andreas Magerl, the editor of Amiga Future, if he would mind if I transferred the RSS feed with Amiga Future News to the Gemini universe. He didn't mind, so I got to work and wrote a kind of scraper in Python. It was my very first Python project and actually a prototype that was supposed to be revised at some point. But as the saying goes, “Nothing lasts longer than a prototype ... .”
You can find this news in English and German here:
Sometimes the scraper can freeze up, in which case I restart it as soon as someone points it out to me or I notice it myself. As I said, it was my first Python project and it's more complicated than it needed to be. Maybe one day I'll find the time to finally revise the old thing. ;)
